4B. Matrix Management 2.0 Productivity

  • 4B1. In MM 2.0, the Productivity, or “P” Key, along with the Accountability, or “A” Key, are the primary drivers for optimization of the organization as a whole.
  • 4B2. Premises that drive MM 2.0 Productivity include:
    • 4B2i. In order to optimize the whole, you must sometimes suboptimize the elements or parts.
    • 4B2ii. Prioritization happens either deliberately or inadvertently.
    • 4B2iii. To optimize the organization, you must integrate all the segments and the elements of a segment into a whole.
  • 4B3. Principles of MM 2.0 Productivity include:
    • 4B3i. The team is optimized, not the individual.
    • 4B3ii. Resource leaders are fiduciaries for organizational resources.
    • 4B3iii. The organization cannot overspend (over allocate) its resources and still optimize the whole organization.

  • 4B4. Rules of MM 2.0 Productivity include:
    • 4B4i. You must set organizational priorities if you want alignment across the organization
    • 4B4ii. Goals must be prioritized from the top down through the horizontal organization, across sectors and vectors, and then prioritized within sectors and vectors.
    • 4B4iii. Resource managers must manage capacity so that less than 100% of capacity is allocated. (See Section 4F on Understanding Capacity.)
    • 4B4iv. Contingency must be included in all plans so that goals/deliverables are achievable. (See Section 4H on Contingency Time.)
  • 4B5. The MM 2.0 Productivity Key results in:
    • 4B5i. Alignment of the leadership team to organizational goals.
    • 4B5ii. Employees working in support of organizational goals.
    • 4B5iii. An optimized organization.
